What to Expect from the OLLU Online MBA in Healthcare Management

Admission Requirements: Applicants to the OLLU online MBA program must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 credits of undergraduate coursework.

Application materials include an online application and fee, a resume with a recommended three years of professional or managerial work experience, two letters of reference, official transcripts, and a graduate personal statement of one to two double-spaced pages. No GMAT/GRE test scores are required. Conditional admission may be available for those with a cumulative GPA of near 2.5.

Study Plan: The OLLU online MBA can be completed in two years or less depending on part-time or full-time study. It is designed to be completed on a part-time basis so as not to interrupt professional careers. Start dates land in the spring and fall and those without a business background should apply by the priority deadlines to ensure time for leveling courses to be completed. Students can expect to spend 15 to 20 hours per week on each three-credit course. A capstone course is required in the final semester of the program.

Curriculum: The OLLU online MBA in healthcare management comprises 36 credits. Specialization courses for the healthcare management concentration comprise 15 credits. Core courses include managerial control systems, management theory and decision-making practices, information systems for management, marketing strategies and policies, the economics of global business conditions, supply chain and operations management, and strategic management concepts and processes (capstone course).

Healthcare management concentration courses include three of the following: management of healthcare institutions; healthcare planning and policy; managed care for commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid populations; and special topics in healthcare management.

Those without a business background may need to take the following online, non-credit leveling courses before beginning the online MBA program (or corresponding course): financial accounting; statistics; principles of marketing; economics; and managerial accounting.

Online Experience: All new online students participate in an online orientation to get acquainted with the OLLU online learning management system (LMS). This system allows students to complete and submit assignments, take assessments, email faculty and peers, and participate in discussion forums. The courses are asynchronous with designated due dates for assignments and assessments. There may also be required team meetings for certain projects.

Faculty support is available through email or phone, and students have access to 24/7 technical support. Other student services include peer tutoring programs and access to the Mary Francine Danis Writing Center, disability services, library access, admissions counseling, and career counseling.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the online MBA in healthcare management as the program is 100 percent online. Students are invited to participate in graduation on campus and are welcome to visit campus at any time.
