The MA in health care management program seeks to develop effective leadership skills through real-world experiences related to organizational culture, financial management, marketing, human resource management, and leadership, all through the lens of health care management. Current issues in health care include improving patient quality of care, clinical outcomes, and cost management.

Students may complete an established set of major courses or choose a concentration in human resources, leadership, marketing, or project management. Learning outcomes focus on an in-depth knowledge of the health care industry and its delivery systems, professional ethics, decision-making structures, innovative thinking, financial management, organizational culture, and best practices in health care management. MA in health care management students will learn their own leadership style and what leadership roles are required in the health care industry.

Applicants to the Waldorf University online MA in health care management must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5. No work experience or graduate test scores are required. A grade of B or higher is required in all courses in order to graduate.

Admission Requirements: Prospective students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. No work experience is required, nor are GMAT or GRE test scores. Students need to earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher in all courses in order to graduate.

Application materials include an online application and official transcripts. Proof of English language proficiency may be required for applicants who are non-native English speakers, depending on the amount of previous study that was taught in English. International applicants must have a transcript review completed by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member organization.

Study Plan: Waldorf University offers 11 start dates per year for online programs. Courses last eight weeks each, and the program can be completed in about 2.5 years.

Curriculum: The Waldorf University online MA in health care management comprises 36 credits. Courses include emerging issues in health administration; building professional teams; self-care for health care professionals, health care strategic planning and marketing, health field human resource management; health care budgeting and financial management; health care professionalism; ethical leadership in health care; personal leadership development; leadership theory and practice; diversity and inclusion in the organization culture; and leading complex change.

Graduate healthcare management students may also concentrate their courses in a certain area, such as project management, human resources, marketing, or leadership. The MA degree with a concentration requires the completion of 21 major courses and 15 credits of concentration courses.

• Project management concentration courses include Project management; research methods; managing project teams; project management strategy and tactics; and managing complex projects.
• Human resources concentration courses include human resource management; ethics for business leadership; leadership development and coaching; measuring human resource and change impact; and organizational development.
• Marketing concentration courses include strategic marketing; marketing research; new product marketing; business to business marketing; and advanced marketing.
• Leadership concentration courses include personal leadership development; leadership theory and practice; culture of learning organizations; diversity and inclusion in organizational culture; and organizational development.

Online Experience: Waldorf University offers online courses through the learning management system Blackboard, and eTextbooks are secured through Vital Source at no extra cost. Students also use the myWaldorf student portal to access calendars, grades, and other services. There are no set login times and students should check in at the beginning of each week to review the required discussion board post and course assignments. Courses typically begin on a Wednesday and end at midnight the following Tuesday.

Online graduate students have access to advisors and counselors who offer personalized support throughout their program. Student services may include career counseling, online tutoring, access to a wide range of online databases for research, technology support, an online library, and an academic achievement center.

On-Site Requirements: The online MA in health care management does not require any site visits or in-person experiences.
