What to Expect from the California Intercontinental University Online Healthcare MBA

Admission Requirements: Interested students must hold a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education with a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Applicants must have at least two years of professional experience in a corporate, business, or entrepreneurial environment. No GMAT or GRE is required.

Application materials include an online application and fee, sealed official transcripts, a copy of a government-issued photo ID, an enrollment agreement, and a professional resume or CV. Applicants must conduct an interview with a CIU admissions advisor. International applicants may need to provide proof of English language proficiency, have transcripts evaluated if they are not in English, and have all documents translated into English prior to submission.

Study Plan: California Intercontinental University divides a student’s academic year into two semesters. Each semester is divided into three terms of six weeks in length. Start dates land eight times per year in January, February, April, May, July, August, September, and November. Whatever month a student begins the program is the beginning of their academic year.

The program can be completed in two years by taking one course at a time minus summers. The program can be completed in approximately one year by taking two courses per six-week term, minus the summer. Students must request permission to take more than one course per term, must be in good academic standing, and must maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Curriculum: The CIU online healthcare MBA comprises 36 credits. Students complete eight core business courses and four healthcare management and leadership specialization courses. Business core courses may include accounting; entrepreneurial finance; management information systems; economics for decision making; leadership and development in organization; strategic management and competitive globalization; organizational development; and marketing.

Healthcare management and leadership specialization courses may include leadership in healthcare; healthcare human resource management; ethics of healthcare; and healthcare economics.

Online Experience: California Intercontinental University utilizes Moodle as its online learning management system (LMS). Coursework and materials may include unit lessons, case studies, videos, websites, discussion threads, presentations, research projects, oral or group presentations, and assignments. Videos, eTextbooks, and open education resources (OER) are included in the instructional materials. Proctored exams are taken at various points throughout the program in addition to a final exam if included in the course.

New graduate students must attend a live, virtual new student orientation where student success advocates interactively coach students on all they need to know to begin their course(s) successfully, including activating their student account, accessing courses and materials, and submitting assignments. Student services may include access to career services, technical support, the student resource center, disability services, the library, and information resources network (LIRN), and student success advocates.

On-Site Requirements: The CIU online healthcare MBA does not require any on-site visits.
