Arizona State University Online Biomedical Diagnostics MS Program
The Arizona State University International School of Biomedical Diagnostics offers an online master of science (MS) in biomedical diagnostics. This program is offered in partnership with Dublin City University. The program covers four key areas: science, technology, business, and the application of diagnostics. These apply to every area of healthcare from patient management, to healthcare finance, policy, pharmaceuticals, and technology.
Arizona State University is located in Phoenix, Arizona with several campuses in the area, including Tempe and downtown Phoenix. Through community partnerships with organizations such as the Barrow Neurological Institute, the Mayo Clinic, the Health Care Sector Partnership, and HonorHealth, among others, ASU offers students resources and networking opportunities to further their education and careers. In addition, faculty members continue to participate with the medical community in areas of leadership, research, innovation, and neuroscience.
Those interested in the biomedical diagnostics MS must have previous schooling in medicine, engineering, business, or a closely related field. Graduates of the program are prepared to work in leadership and management positions in the biomedical field, taking on roles in quality systems, sales management, clinical research support and management, business development, clinical laboratory support and management, and other areas.

What to Expect from the Online Master of Science in Biomedical Diagnostics
Admissions Requirements: Applicants must hold a BS or MS in the fields of biology, biomedical informatics, life sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, biomedical engineering, supply chain management, health sciences, computer science, business, medical studies, or another related field. A candidate’s minimum undergraduate or graduate degree GPA should be 3.0 or greater. Applicants must submit an application and fee, official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and proof of English language proficiency for international students. No GMAT/GRE or work experience is required; however, work experience is desired.
Study Plan: Classes are offered in a condensed 7.5-week format, and the degree consists of ten courses. It is designed to be completed in one year. Graduate students must successfully complete an applied project, working with industry partners and ASU faculty on a biomedical diagnostics issue. Some courses are offered through Dublin City University, and students are expected to request a transfer of those credits into the ASU program. Start dates are offered in fall and spring.
Coursework: The breakdown of this 30-credit program is as follows: 19 credits of required courses, six credits of electives, two credits of research, and a three-credit culminating applied project. Core courses include the foundations of biomedical informatics methods; health economics, policy and payment models; current perspectives in biomedical diagnostics; the regulation of medical diagnostics; and molecular diagnostics. An example of an elective might be biomedical device design. Students should check with the BMD program for a list of approved electives.
Online Experience: Most courses are asynchronous but may have specific login times required. This format allows students to watch recorded lectures and complete coursework on their own time by a scheduled due date. There may be assignments and tests that are only available for a block of time (e.g., 48-72 hours), so students should keep up on emails and posted information. ASU uses Blackboard as its online learning management system. Students can use a PC or Mac and should have a headset, microphone, and webcam to make use of all offered multimedia tools.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the MS in biomedical diagnostics program as it is 100 percent online. Students are welcome to visit campus and participate in graduation on campus.
