Admission Requirements: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university to apply. Students must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA for undergraduate coursework. No work or healthcare experience is required.

In addition, GRE and GMAT exam results are not required. Admissions materials include an online application, an application fee, a 500-word essay that includes reasons for application to the MSHI program, two letters of professional or academic recommendation, official transcripts, and a professional resume.

International students must submit test scores of a minimum of 80 for TOEFL and a minimum band score of 6.5 for IELTS.

Study Plan: The part-time Adelphi University online MSHI can be completed in three years by taking two courses per semester and one course each summer. Students may begin the program at six start dates throughout the year in the fall, spring, and summer. No campus visits are required as this program is 100 percent online and it includes a practicum in the student’s location of residence.

Curriculum: The flexible online MSHI program comprises 39 credits. Prerequisites include mathematics for managers and statistical methods. These courses must be taken prior to beginning the MSHI program. Students may transfer up to nine applicable course credits from within the previous five years.

Healthcare Informatics courses may include data communications, an introduction to US healthcare organizations, computer applications, management theory/organizational behavior, creating organizational value with operations and supply chain management, decision support and decision support systems in HIT, and research and technology in health education. A practicum in healthcare information technology and a capstone in healthcare information technology are also required.

Online Experience: Adelphi University utilizes Moodle as its online Learning Management System (LMS). Through this versatile online LMS, students and faculty can access materials and communicate at any time. Courses are asynchronous but may include some synchronous activities. Face-to-face and virtual interaction take place through various multimedia tools which may include VoiceThread, Panopto, iTunes University, Adobe Connect, Google Apps, Skype, podcasting, and online assessment tools. Students in the online MSHI program also have access to the Adelphi Learning Center, Adelphi Writing Center, online journals, library services, one-on-one virtual interactions with professors, video tutorials, 24/7 technical support, academic advising, and career counseling.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the Adelphi online MSHI as the program is 100 percent online. Students must complete a practicum in their area of residence.
