Northeastern State University (NSU) offers an online master of science in nursing (MSN) in administrative leadership, nursing education, and nursing informatics. These programs are fully online with no campus visits and can be completed in as few as 12 months. A field experience of 200 hours guided by a mentor is included.

The programs begin twice each semester in the fall, spring, and summer. Courses last seven weeks each, with students taking two or more courses per semester for full-time enrollment. Core courses for the MSN programs cover advanced research and evidence-based nursing practice, cultural perspectives, policy and ethics, and current issues in professional nursing.

The administrative leadership MSN curriculum aligns with the core competencies published by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Key topics include leadership development for advanced practice nurses, theories and principles in organizational systems management, human resource management in healthcare, and healthcare finance and resource management.

The coursework for the online MSN in nursing education aligns with the National League for Nursing (NLN) core competencies. The nursing informatics MSN curriculum also aligns with the core competencies set by the AONE.

Graduates of the nursing education MSN programs may be prepared to take the National League for Nursing (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator exam.

Admission Requirements: Prospective online MSN students must hold a BSN from a nationally accredited nursing program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher or 3.0 in all nursing courses. Proof of RN licensure is required for all programs in the state where clinical hours will be completed.
Application materials include an online application, official transcripts, proof of RN licensure, immunization records, and other supplemental documentation as required. Proof of English language proficiency may be required as applicable.

The program will take approximately five semesters, taking one course at a time with two per semester. Online Experience: Northeastern State University uses Blackboard as its online learning management system (LMS). Online students can use video and email platforms, watch recorded lectures and videos, participate in online chat rooms and discussion boards, submit assignments, and participate in live online classes if included. Courses are delivered in an asynchronous format. Student services may include faculty office hours, library services, academic advising, financial aid help, technical support, and career services.

On-Site Requirements: The NSU online MSN is fully online with a 200-hour local field experience. No campus visits are required.
