Queens University of Charlotte offers a flexible online MBA in healthcare management through the McColl School of Business. This program is based on Hugh McColl’s three C’s of leadership: character, commitment to community, and competence. Online students attend an online orientation geared specifically to the MBA program. During this orientation, students learn about the online learning platform and meet other students in their program.

Flexible MBA in healthcare students have access to one-on-one executive coaching throughout their program and can choose a coach based on their interests and career goals. The guidance and support from these executive coaches are invaluable and can help students prepare for career transitions, manage stress, navigate interpersonal relationships, and define personal strengths and weaknesses. This helps them maintain a healthy balance between school, family, and work. In addition, students have a high level of support from faculty and McColl School mentors.

Those with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution may apply to the flexible online MBA program. No work experience is required, but it is preferred. Graduates of the MBA in healthcare management program may go on to careers in upper-level management at hospitals, research organizations, public and private healthcare institutions, government facilities, and long-term care facilities. What to Expect from the Queens University Flexible Online MBA in Healthcare Management

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university to apply. No work experience is required; however, three years of relevant work experience is preferred. Admissions materials include an online graduate admissions application, a detailed resume or CV, official transcripts, a statement of purpose, and an optional letter of reference.

GMAT/GRE test scores are not required, however, they may be requested by the admissions department. Applicants should note that a high GMAT/GRE test score will strengthen the application and may qualify students for fellowship awards or additional scholarships. Finally, applicants complete an interview through the McColl School of Business. International students must submit IELTS, TOEFL, or ELS test scores; a course-by-course evaluation of official transcripts; and proof of sufficient funds for their education costs.

Study Plan: The Queens University flexible online MBA in healthcare can be completed in 11 to 20 months or more. Semesters are divided into two eight-week sessions for the online program. Students may begin the MBA program in January, May, or August and must attend one campus or virtual residency as a graduation requirement.

Curriculum: The flexible online MBA comprises 30 credits including 18 credits of core courses, and 12 credits of electives, two of which must be selected from healthcare courses offered through the Blair College of Health. Core courses include leadership development, managerial accounting, marketing management, business analytics, managerial finance, and strategic leadership. Students then take health services organization and development plus one of the following: organizational behavior in healthcare organizations, management of human resources in health administration, or managerial epidemiology research and statistics. The two other elective courses may be taken from the three listed or from other approved courses.

Students who do not have a business background may need to take up to six foundation credits through three courses, including foundations of accounting, foundations of statistics, and foundations of finance. These may be waived upon admittance.

Online Experience: Queens University uses the MyCourses online learning management system (LMS). MyCourses offers Skype web conferencing for face-to-face collaboration, instant messaging (IM), social media tools, shared blogging, community tools, and access to assignments and tools on mobile devices.

Online MBA courses are asynchronous. Through a virtual course wall, students can view assignments, syllabi, and readings; post on discussion groups; complete group assignments; and interact with fellow team members, classmates, and faculty. Technical requirements include a computer with a high-speed internet connection, the Microsoft Office Suite, a current operating system and browser, a webcam, and a microphone. Online students have access to 24/7 technical support, an academic advisor, an alumni mentor for career counseling, an executive coach for one-on-one coaching, and faculty support.

On-Site Requirements: Students participate in one in-person or virtual residency.
