Rasmussen University’s School of Health Sciences offers a 100 percent online MHA that can be completed in as little as 18 months. This Competency-Based Education (CBE) program provides modules for student completion through exercises, simulations, real-world case studies, and applied projects. Students can move through at their own pace within the 11-week term. Additionally, students have the opportunity to take self-directed assessments in order to earn credit for previous learning.

Industry-experienced faculty lead the 11-week CBE courses through an interactive, collaborative online platform. Students have access to faculty support through personal feedback on completed work, live interaction sessions with faculty and peers, and availability to answer questions and offer guidance. As well, students have access to student success coaches and academic advisors.

The online MHA curriculum aligns with the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) Health Leadership Competency Model. This model purports interdisciplinary competencies in active and enabling domains including accountability, change leadership, organizational awareness, self-awareness, analytical thinking, innovation, project management, community collaboration, and many more. Understanding and meeting these competencies creates healthcare leaders who are well-rounded and able to address the challenges of today’s healthcare organizations.

The Rasmussen University online MHA program is designed for students who wish to advance their careers into leadership positions within healthcare administration. Start dates are offered four times per year in fall, winter, spring, and summer. Students earn a grade for each completed course and Rasmussen’s Comprehensive Learner Record (CLR) goes beyond a transcript to clearly outline the skills and knowledge the graduate has learned and demonstrated.

Courses for the online MHA focus on the following through the lens of healthcare: leadership, information systems, technology, operations management, quality management, strategic planning, marketing, professional growth, leadership, population health, ethics, healthcare delivery systems, and scholarly writing and research. As students progress through the courses, skills and knowledge can be applied immediately to real-world situations in the current workplace.

Career opportunities for graduates with a master of healthcare administration may include hospital administrator, clinical director, long-term care administrator, health services manager, admissions coordinator, and practice manager.

Rasmussen University is accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and offers several online and campus-based master’s programs. The main headquarters is located in Bloomington, Minnesota with campuses located throughout Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Admission Requirements: Prospective online MHA students must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants who do not meet the GPA requirement, but who have earned a GPA of 2.5 to 2.74 may request an exception by submitting a personal statement per the guidelines of the admissions department. No GMAT, GRE, application fee, or work experience is required. An enrollment advisor will work with applicants to submit transcripts and sign enrollment documents.

Study Plan: The 100 percent online Rasmussen MHA program can be completed in as little as 18 months. Students may begin in the fall, winter, spring, and summer. Courses run for 11 weeks each and students can complete the courses at their own pace throughout each term.

MHA Curriculum: The Rasmussen University MHA comprises 48 credits over 12 courses which include scholarly research and writing; healthcare policy, ethics, and laws; introduction to healthcare delivery systems; population health; healthcare financial management and economics; healthcare information systems and technology; healthcare leadership and human resources; healthcare operations management; healthcare quality management; healthcare strategic planning in marketing; professional growth and leadership; and healthcare administration capstone.

Online Experience: The online MHA is delivered through Blackboard in an engaging and collaborative manner. Courses are hands-on, action-oriented, skills-based, and immediately applicable to real work situations. Students engage in real-world situational analysis through simulations, case studies, exercises, projects, and other coursework, all designed to meet the outlined competencies for the course.

Rasmussen University offers live online sessions where students can ask questions and connect with faculty and peers, personal feedback on completed coursework from faculty, student success coaches, and academic advisors. In addition, Rasmussen offers online tutoring, library services, and 24/7 technical support through the Personal Support Center (PSC).

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the Rasmussen University online MHA is 100 percent online. Students complete an online orientation at the beginning of the program.

Rasmussen University online MHA tuition numbers are listed in the tables below. In order to reduce the time and cost further, students may transfer in or earn credit for up to 20% of the program. The CBE courses for the MHA are eligible for federal student aid for those who qualify by applying through the FAFSA. In addition, students may wish to inquire with their place of employment as to the possibility of a tuition reimbursement program.
