What to Expect from the UNC Pembroke Online MBA – Healthcare Administration

Admission Requirements: Applicants to the online MBA program must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or 3.0 on all major courses or senior-year coursework. The GMAT is typically waived for applicants with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or those who hold a master’s degree; however, the GMAT is currently being waived for all applicants.
Those without a bachelor’s degree in business may need to take up to four foundation courses in addition to the MBA curriculum. No work experience is required. Application materials include an online application, application fee, and official transcripts.

Study Plan: The University of North Carolina at Pembroke begins the online MBA in healthcare administration program twice each in the fall, spring, and summer. Accelerated seven-week courses are 100 percent online and allow students to graduate in as few as 12 months. A strategic planning capstone course is included in the program, allowing students to manage a computer-simulated company, analyze complex business issues, and participate in business decision-making.

Curriculum: The UNC Pembroke online MBA in healthcare administration comprises 36 credits and is 100 percent online. Not included in the 36-credit total, foundation courses may need to be taken by students without a business background. These include foundations of financial and managerial accounting; foundations of microeconomics/macroeconomics; foundations of business statistics; and foundations of finance.

Core courses include international business; marketing planning and strategy; organizational theory end behavior; managerial finance; managerial economics; quantitative methods; managerial accounting; and strategic planning capstone.

Healthcare administration concentration courses include health administration and organization; legal and ethical issues for healthcare professionals; and health economics. Students then choose one course from the following: business analytics; human resources management; entrepreneurship; operations management; or services marketing.

Online Experience: UNCP delivers online courses through the Canvas learning management system (LMS). In addition, Examity is utilized to administer exams, and WebEx is used for instructor meetings. Courses include group coursework and projects, WebEx conversations in a virtual classroom participating live with other students, and asynchronous course components.

Students can access an ePortfolio account through the ePortfolio Initiative for Career Success (EPICS). Faculty and staff work with students to transition from the master’s program into the career setting. Student services include online tutoring through the Writing Center, academic advising and engagement through the Center for Student Success, library services, financial aid services, faculty office hours, technical support, and career counseling.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the UNC Pembroke online MBA is 100 percent online. New online students complete an online orientation.
