Baylor University offers an online master of public health (MPH@Baylor) program with a community health focus, through the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences (RCHHS). Courses are delivered online with live, face-to-face class sessions, a 250-hour graduate project internship, and a weekend campus immersion. What to Expect from the Baylor University Community Health-Focused Online MPH Program
Admission Requirements: Applicants to MPH@Baylor must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred on a 4.0 scale. No GMAT or GRE test scores are required but are recommended for those with a GPA below 2.8. Application materials include a resume or CV, official transcripts, a personal statement, and three letters of recommendation
Study Plan: MPH@Baylor begins in January, April, July, and October. Full-time students can complete the MPH program in 18 months, and part-time students take 24 months. One weekend campus immersion is included on the Waco, TX campus. As well, students complete a 250-hour internship accredited by the CEPH. This is a culminating project at the end of the program. Students may also complete an optional 200-hour practicum.
Curriculum: MPH@Baylor comprises 42 credits. Core courses include theoretical foundations of health behavior and public health; foundations of public health; public health concepts in epidemiology; assessment and planning in public and community health; evaluation in public and community health; research methods; administration and leadership in public health; statistical methodology; fundamentals of environmental health science; a two-credit public health weekend immersion experience; and a graduate project.
Students then choose three elective courses (nine credits). Elective course choices include current topics in public health; determinants of health and health equity; global public health; public health policy and practice; and a practicum, which includes 200 contact hours.
Online Experience: Baylor University focuses on leadership and service preparation, offering an online experience that educates the whole person. The digital campus includes a dashboard that offers an organized view of the MPH program with courses, upcoming due dates, and current grades. Here students access the online classroom where live, face-to-face class sessions occur. The digital campus also features a full-service mobile app for added flexibility and convenience, with an offline mode where video coursework may be downloaded for access anywhere.
The dashboard is customizable, with dark mode, video speed settings, and captioning. Study tools with searchable video transcripts allow students to access topic information easily. Additionally, students can give and receive feedback instantly with on-screen annotations and video commentary. Class sizes are small and include live sessions and breakout rooms. Student support services include career services and mentoring, one-on-one faculty hours, academic advising, and technical support.
On-Site Requirements: Baylor University requires one, two-credit, weekend immersion at the Waco, TX, campus for collaboration, problem-solving, and networking. Courses are mainly delivered online, with a required 250-hour CEPH-accredited internship as a graduate project, and an optional 200-hour practicum.
