Curriculum: The online MSHS in biomedical informatics comprises 36 credits; six graduate-level credits may be transferred with approval. Students complete 11 core courses and one elective. Core courses include biostatistics for clinical translational research, topics in healthcare leadership, issues and trends in health systems, healthcare for informatics, medical decision-making and decision support systems, and epidemiology for clinical and translational research. Students also complete a biomedical informatics practicum and biomedical informatics capstone. Elective choices include grantsmanship in translational research, advanced computing applications for biomedical informatics, and bioinformatics for genomics.
Online Experience: Students in the online GW MSHS biomedical informatics programs begin with online student orientation. All students are assigned an academic advisor and have access to academic and technical support through GW. The George Washington University uses the Blackboard learning management system (LMS) for online learning. This system includes course syllabi, videos, assignments, faculty/peer communication tools, discussion groups, forums, and all tests and quizzes.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the online MSHS from GW. Graduate students in the MSHS must complete a practicum. Students are invited to participate in graduation on campus.
