Columbia Southern University (CSU) offers a 100 percent online MBA in health care management program that blends key business leadership and health care management skills to create effective business leaders in the health care industry. Nine-week courses are flexible, allowing students to complete them early or extend the time needed.
CSU offers 11 start dates throughout the year. Master’s degree students may take one to two courses each session, and up to three courses at a time upon advisor approval. The program can be completed in one to two years, depending on the number of courses taken during each nine-week session.
Learning outcomes focus on evaluation of strategic objectives to promote organizational efficiency and productivity; application of practical business management knowledge to health care businesses; cultivation of interpersonal communication and collaboration skills for effective leadership; and data-driven decision-making through analysis and interpretation of health care financial data.
MBA coursework focuses on topics such as advanced marketing, managerial economics, global strategic management, human resource management, managerial accounting, and corporate finance. The health care management concentration prepares students to manage the operational elements of the health care industry. Concentration courses focus on health care financial management, health resources, policy analysis, legal issues in health care, and advanced management.
Graduates may earn positions in rural and urban settings in many types of health care organizations, including rehabilitation centers, mental health facilities, hospice care, medical clinics, hospitals, long-term care centers, birth centers, and urgent care centers. Job titles may include health services manager, health care administrator, medical practice manager, health care financial manager, hospital administrator, and policy analyst.

What to Expect from the Columbia Southern University Online MBA in Health Care Management
Admission Requirements: Prospective students need a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If any undergraduate prerequisites are required, they will be added to the master’s degree plan. No GMAT or GRE test scores are required for admission. CSU does not require a minimum GPA; however, graduate students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 throughout the MBA in health care management program to graduate.
Application materials include an online application and official transcripts. CSU does not charge an application fee. International students or those whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency.
Study Plan: CSU created the LifePace Learning system for busy working adults who are balancing home, work, and graduate study. This system allows for early completion of nine-week courses, or adding time to course completion. No set login times are required, and options for live interaction with faculty and peers through Blackboard Collaborate help make this a flexible program. Courses are continually improved through Quality Matters and are Blackboard-certified. Additionally, all course materials are included in tuition.
The program begins 11 times per year; two in the summer, and three each in the fall, winter, and spring. Students who complete one course at a time may complete the program in a little over two years. Taking two courses at a time reduces the time to completion to a little over one year. Students who gain special permission from their advisor may take up to three courses each nine-week session which would reduce the time to completion to 36 weeks.
Curriculum: The online MBA in health care management comprises 36 credits, including 12 concentration credits. MBA major requirements include economics for managers; corporate finance; advanced marketing; global strategic management; management information systems; human resource management methods; research methods; and management applications of accounting. Health care management concentration courses include health care financial management; health resources and policy analysis; advanced health care management semicolon and legal foundations of health care.
Online Experience: The online experience includes asynchronous components with options for live interaction. Columbia Southern University uses Blackboard as its online learning management system (LMS). Students may meet live with faculty and peers through Blackboard Collaborate. Course delivery includes materials for various learning modalities including video, audio, written, virtual reality, and live or recorded sessions. Courses are Blackboard-certified, follow universal design standards, are ADA compliant, and are continually reviewed and improved through Quality Matters.
Student services may include the student support center; math, writing, and career centers, the academic advising center, disability services, and student resolution office.
On-Site Requirements: The online MBA in health care management program does not require on-site visits.
