What to Expect from the University of Saint Mary Online MBA in Health Care Management
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the online MBA in health care management must hold a BS degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Application materials include an online application, a current resume, two letters of recommendation, and official transcripts. International students must submit TOEFL test scores for proof of English language proficiency. No GMAT/GRE or work experience are required for admission; however, work experience is considered as part of the admissions process.
Study Plan: The University of Saint Mary online MBA in health care management is an accelerated program that can be completed in just one year by taking two courses per eight-week session. Students can choose to take one or two courses per session and most finish within two years. Students usually spend 15-20 hours weekly per course and this must be considered by working professionals wishing to complete the program in one year. Students also must undergo a comprehensive final assessment that does not affect the grade, and that is usually administered during the business policy and ethics capstone course. Students may start six times per year: January, March, April, May, July, and October.
Curriculum: The USM online MBA consists of 36 credits: nine required courses and three health care management concentration courses. Core courses include human resource management, managerial finance, marketing management, managerial accounting, organizational management, managerial economics, operations management, global management, and a capstone course.
Health care management concentration courses include health care informatics and technologies, leadership and business operations in health care, and legal and ethical issues in health care.
Students who do not have a business background may need to take foundational courses including primers in managerial economics, financial accounting, and corporate finance, as well as business math and statistics.
Online Experience: The online MBA program is mostly asynchronous with some synchronous activities and presentations. Through the university’s Engage learning management system, students can watch recorded and live lectures, participate in live chat, complete assignments, participate on discussion boards, and use email and other tools offered for online instruction. Computer requirements include having a current operating system, an adequate amount of RAM, a microphone, webcam, and a high-speed internet connection. All exams are completed online. The University of Saint Mary offers 24/7 technical support and all services that on campus students have access to such as career counseling, library services, and academic counseling.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements as the program is 100 percent online. Students are welcome visit campus and participate in graduation on campus in May of each year.
