Most online master’s programs in healthcare administration (MHA) require the completion of 32 to 60 credits on the management and business side of healthcare. The average time to complete a program is two years, although a specific program could take longer or shorter depending on the student’s transferred credits and work experience and the program’s scope.

Many online MHA programs require between two and five years of previous work experience at the middle to senior management level. However, applicants may not be required to have experience in healthcare administration. Prospective MHA students should also expect to send letters of recommendation from their employers and college professors.

Professors to Know in Online MHA Programs

  • Dana Goldman - University of Southern California

    Dr. Goldman is a distinguished professor at USC's Sol Price School of Public Policy. He is also the founding director and chair of the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics. At USC, he teaches public policy, pharmacy, and economics and his research interests include delayed aging, healthcare reform, health economics and finance, pharmaceutical innovation and regulation, precision medicine, and preventive healthcare. Dr. Goldman holds several additional roles, including serving as a health policy advisor for the Congressional Budget Office and an active member of the MacArthur Foundation's research network on an aging society. He is also the founding editor of the Forum for Health Economics and Policy and an editorial member of the American Journal of Managed Care. Dr. Goldman earned his doctorate in economics from Stanford University.

  • Maureen Walsh Koricke - Queens University of Charlotte

    Dr. Maureen Walsh Koricke is director of Queens University's MHA programs. She is also an assistant professor of health administration. Dr. Walsh Koricke currently works as a healthcare consultant as well. Her research interests include quality improvement in healthcare, patient safety, and curriculum development. She currently teaches workshops on using statistical process control and other types of data to improve healthcare delivery as well as the methodology of quality improvement. Before taking on her current role, Dr. Walsh Koricke served as curriculum development coordinator for residents of the Center for Advancing Pediatric Excellence. She earned her graduate and undergraduate degrees from D’Youville College in New York and her doctoral degree in public policy from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a member of several healthcare organizations, including AcademyHealth, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Association of University Programs for Healthcare Administration.
