The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) offers three fully online and flexible graduate-level programs that help working nurses grow into education, administrative, and leadership roles. These include the master of science in nursing (MSN) in nursing administration, the master of science in nursing (MSN) in nursing education, and the post-master’s certificate in nursing administration. Designed for working professionals, these programs can be completed in as few as 7 to 25 months through multiple start dates and accelerated coursework. All programs are offered through UTA’s College of Nursing and Health Innovation, a recognized NLN Center of Excellence.

The online MSN in nursing administration program prepares nurses to manage operations, support quality patient care, and lead healthcare teams. Students build on their clinical experience while developing advanced skills in financial decision-making, healthcare management, policy, and leadership. Graduates are prepared for roles such as chief nursing officers (CNO), nurse administrators, program administrators, and directors of case management.

In the online MSN in nursing education program, students learn how to mentor and teach the next generation of nurses. The program covers student engagement, classroom strategy, and curriculum development. Clinical experiences and support from expert faculty members help graduates become confident future educators. Graduates are ready for roles such as nursing instructors, clinical nurse educators, nursing education consultants, and nursing professional development specialists.

The post-master’s certificate in nursing administration is designed for MSN-prepared nurses who wish to strengthen their leadership skills in a short amount of time. In just a few months, students gain insights into healthcare business, budgeting, and administration. The program helps prepare graduates to sit for national certification exams in nursing administration and move forward in their careers.

Combining flexible online coursework with practical learning, all three online programs from UTA are taught by experienced faculty members. Students benefit from expert instruction, personalized advising, and the ability to study on their own schedule.

The University of Texas at Arlington is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctor of nursing practice degree programs and the post-graduate APRN certificate program in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at The University of Texas at Arlington are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Admission Requirements: To apply for the University of Texas at Arlington’s online graduate nursing programs, applicants must hold an active RN license and meet clinical experience and academic requirements that may vary by concentration. GRE scores are not required for admission to any of the programs, and international applicants must meet English proficiency standards.

Applicants to the MSN in nursing administration program must have a BSN from a regionally accredited university. The nursing program must be accredited by CCNE or ACEN. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required for unconditional admission, while applicants with a GPA between 2.8 and 2.99 may be considered for probationary status. Completion of an undergraduate statistics course with a minimum grade of C is also required. Applicants must have an active, unencumbered RN license and should have two years of clinical experience. Those with less experience may still be admitted provisionally.

For the MSN in nursing education program, applicants must hold a BSN from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited program and meet the same GPA and statistics course requirements as those applying to the administration track. A current RN license is required, and while two years of work experience is preferred, those with less experience may be granted provisional admission.

The post-master’s certificate in nursing administration is open to nurses who have already completed an MSN from a program accredited by NLNAC or CCNE. A minimum GPA of 3.0 in the MSN program is required. Applicants must also have at least two years of experience as a registered nurse and must have completed an undergraduate statistics course with a grade of C or higher. An active RN license is also required.

International applicants to any of these programs must demonstrate English proficiency through the TOEFL or IELTS, unless they hold a degree from a U.S. institution.

Study Plan: The University of Texas at Arlington’s online graduate nursing programs are structured to provide maximum flexibility for working professionals. Each program is delivered entirely online in an accelerated, eight-week course format, allowing students to progress efficiently through the curriculum without needing to visit campus. Students can start their programs during any of the seven annual start dates. These include summer II, fall I, fall II, fall III, spring I, and spring II. Each term has its own set of deadlines for applications, documents, and tuition payments.

The MSN in nursing administration program requires the completion of 36 credits and can be completed in as few as 21 to 25 months. The MSN in nursing education program consists of 34 credits, including 135 precepted clinical hours. Students can complete the MSN in nursing education program in approximately 21 to 25 months. The post-master’s certificate in nursing administration is a 12-credit program that can be completed in as few as seven months.

All coursework is completed entirely online, with no campus visits required, making it easier to balance school with personal and work responsibilities.

Curriculum: Each of the online graduate nursing programs at the University of Texas at Arlington is designed to equip graduates with practical skills and advanced theoretical knowledge required for pursuing leadership positions in healthcare. Combining core graduate nursing courses with specialized training relevant to each concentration, the programs prepare graduates for real-world practice.

The MSN in nursing administration program is made up of 36 credits across 12 courses. Course lengths vary from 5 to 10 weeks. In addition to classroom learning, students complete clinical application hours to build experience in administrative functions and leadership.

Core courses in the MSN in nursing administration program include nursing management in the healthcare environment; exploration of science and theories for nursing; roles and functions of the nurse administrator (90 clinical hours); management seminar and practice (90 clinical hours with capstone project); financial management in nursing (45 clinical hours); management of nursing operations (45 clinical hours); nursing leadership and complex healthcare systems; principles of research in nursing; evidence-based practice; nursing and healthcare policy; and nursing informatics. Students are also required to complete one elective from the following options: curriculum development and evaluation; teaching/learning theories, strategies, and evaluation; statistics for healthcare.

The MSN in nursing education program includes 34 credits. The curriculum includes courses such as advanced care of a client population; advanced assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology for nurse educators; exploration of science and theories for nursing; role of the nurse educator; assessment and evaluation strategies (45 clinical hours); curriculum development and evaluation; nursing informatics; teaching/learning theories, strategies, and evaluation; simulation application in nursing (45 clinical hours); nursing education practicum; principles of research in nursing; and evidence-based practice.

The post-master’s certificate in nursing administration is a 12-credit program, but the actual number of required courses may vary depending on each student’s academic background. Students may complete courses such as nursing informatics; nursing management in healthcare; roles and functions of the nurse administrator; management seminar and practice; financial management in nursing; management of nursing operations (45 clinical hours); leadership and healthcare systems; and nursing and healthcare policy. An elective course in statistics for healthcare may also be required based on individual learning needs.
